What kind of ctenosaura (enyaliosaurus?) is this ?

Argon Jul 25, 2004 09:55 AM

I've bought this fellow and his woman some months ago, but I never found out which species this exactly is...
I bought them as "Ctenosaura Quinquetaeniatus", which don't exist. A little googling told me "Ctenosaura Quinquecarinata", but there's few information available on the web
Seems the name has changed to "Enyaliosaurus Quinquecarinatus" now.

I'm pretty confused
Can anyone get me out of it ?
Thank you.
Kris from Belgium.

It looks alot like my clubtails (Quinquecarinata). Here is a photo of one of mine, as yet unsexed.

Yours is a female

I did some more googling and altavista-ing, and I came up with the following:

Ctenosaura (now renamed to Enyaliosaurus) Quinquecarinata has been subdivided into 2 different species in 2001.
Now there is
- Enyaliosaurus Quinquecarinatus
- Enyaliosaurus Oaxacana

Googling and the quinquecarinatus currently available in my pet shop taught me that our animal is most probably the Enyaliosaurus Oaxacana (Oaxacan Spinytail Iguana).

Sadly enough, being "a new species" there's little to no information available on the web.

I restarted the search for the exact name of this animal (I had goven up before), because of a forum thread with picture on http://forum.dierenparadijs.be/index.php?showtopic=18815&st=0&#entry263748 .
The picture is taken in the Zoo of Cologne (Köln - Germany).

Now I'm pretty sure it is the "rare" (rare in Europe at least) species Enyaliosaurus Oaxacana.

Greetings, and thanks for the nice picture

it used to be enyaliosaurus(spelling) and it is now ctenosaura. Yes it is quinquecarinata and they are commonly imported into the USA but I gather you are in Europe. Your specimens very nice looking as most here seen in petstores are in very poor shape. I believe there care in the same as many ctenos but they may be a little more secretive. Mark Malfatti(markm) on this forum has a lot of experience with them. You may want to look down the post and e-mail him any questions. He is very busy and does not post much. Good luck. Tom

Yup, I had it backwards, but I still think it's not quinquecarinata.
I've seen 2 couples of quinquecarinata in the pet shop today, and they look quite different (tail is very different).

So, I'm pretty sure it are Ctenosaura Oaxacana

Greetings.
