8 baby corn/red rat snakes??

crochunter Jul 25, 2004 10:55 AM

I have 8, one week old red rat snakes or they could be corn. I have both species in the wild around my house. They are eating great, but I am not sure whether to let them go into the wild or just sell them so they remain in captivity and be well cared for. I have had offers of 100.00 for all 8, but I think they would prefer their freedom. What do you guys think? Do you think they would make it on their own in the wild? I just want to do what is best for them, I'd hate to see them die in the wild. My e-mail is snakelover6@hotmail.com Thank you.

Depends where you got 'em....... If they were wild-caught, or came from eggs laid by a wild-caught gravid female in your area, then you may wish to let them go. If they come from captive-bred stock, they should remain in captivty. If you do release them, they should be released as close as possible to where they (or Mom) was caught. BTW...the cornsnake is often called the "red ratsnake"
