Feeding a baby RES

pinkytyphoon Jul 25, 2004 11:39 AM

I have a baby RES that has already become quite picky about what it eats. I have tried to feed it turtle pellets, but it ignores them and will only eat its prawn treats, which I thought were supposed to be given sparingly. I'm not sure what else to feed it, and due to its small size (probably about 2 inches) I don't know exactly what I can feed it, and how often. I don't want its shell to become misshapen from giving it too much protein, so any advice on a varied diet would be great! Thanks )

Oops, I need to correct myself: I meant to say that his treats are krill, not prawn. Sorry!

Turtles can go a long time without food, and many people only feed their turtles every two or three days. If you hold out for a few days you might find that your turtle does like turtle pellets. You should also be offering your little guy green leafy veggies (not spinach). Just toss a leaf of Romaine lettuce in the tank and eventually it will look like a snowflake. If you feed them too often they can afford to be picky. Your turtle is not going to starve to death, when he gets hungry he will eat what you offer him.

Good luck! Nancy
