Weird Leo (a little long)

pythonmomma Jul 25, 2004 02:14 PM

This is probably all my fault, but I wanted to know what you guys thought about it. I gave my hatchling Leo a wax worm. When you look at her (assuming a girl) stomach she has a cloudy white area in the lower end of her stomach. Did I make her sick with the wax worm? She has not eaten in 2 days since the worm. She was eating 10-13 mealworms and 5-10 crickets before all of this. I am sorry I don't have a camera topost a pick with. She is on a tile floor with a warm side averaging 91. Her cool side is almost always 78-82. She has plenty of water and is still active. Let me know what you guys think. I have a vet appointment for Tuesday, but I am so worried now. Thank you.

If she's acting normally, there is most likely nothing wrong. Wax worms are quite fatty, and most likely pretty filling. If she's not eating again within a few days, you might have a problem then.

Waxworms can be addicting to leos. They may like them so much that they can refuse all other foods until you give them more waxies. This may be an extreme case since you have only fed her one, but maybe the previous owner had the same problem and now she's found out you've got them, too.
Just a possibility.

I bought this Leo from the breeder a few days out of the egg. She had like 3 crix while living with him before I got her. I don't think it is an addiction. I got her to eat on mealworm tongiht, but that was it. I am more concerned about the cloudyness in her tummy then the not eating. She is the biggest hatchling I have seen, so I figure 2 days refusing food is not that bad, I would like her to eat though.

This might sound like a weird idea, but could it be gas, maybe? A user on another forum showed pics of his juvenile that, when held to the light, looked like he had a transparent stomach. It was basically just a bunch of air.

Well, it is not transparent though. It looks like the wax worm in her lower abdomen, it is that color of cloudy white. I don't know, I am lost. Can't wait to see what the vet says.
