My other ringneck vs. shorthead garter neonate

HerperHelmz Jul 25, 2004 02:15 PM

This was something that happened more times than I can count. It seems as though the ringneck was snacking on my neonate population for about 2 weeks before I seen this.

Here is a pic of the male ringneck dragging the little snake out from under the rock.

But what do you expect from someone who likes to feed other snakes to snakes, probally just keep a few different species togetehr just to see who would win a fight, then who will eat who. Whatevs,

I agree, that is a dirty setup, that tank is a "substitute tank" like if I find a snake that I want and I don't have a proper tank for it yet, it will go in there. Hey, and it's not my fault that this snake decided to eat shorthead garter snake neonates. Sure it's more conveniant for me but I didn't make it that way. I didn't offer it the little snakes as food.

That ringneck lived with a gravid northern brown snake and a few little neonate shortheads. It now lives in a small plastic tank by itself.

What is it with you people that are so against feeding snakes to snakes? You must hate the natural world. If you have/find a snake and you want to feed it to something I say go right ahead. that just anoys me. However you have the right to say your opinion though.

Hey Herper helmz, seriously I'm sorry for the above post, I didnt mean for it to sound so harsh. I just picture you this dude who likes to sit and watch snakes-(or any other animals) fight and go at it and then hopefullt one eats one or its a battle to the death, and you think its cool to watch, with a smile and a bag of chips or soemthing../,lol, but really, you are probally a good guy, just like to see animals fight or soemthing, sorry though for the poste above.

Now, for the other dude, when you say you people what do you mean by you people..?,lol, but NO, I have nothing against the naturals of nature. Nothing at all, snakes easting snakes in nature is right, thats what alot of them do. But keeping snakes in captivity isnt natural, they can be kept on pure diets of mice and thats "natural to them", cause they know no better. And I also agree that if a snake will not eat anything EXCEPT other snakes, then so be it. But its that he had stated it was feeding on pinky parts, so why another snake if its eating pink parts already...?, thats it. Anyways, I really just wanted to sorry for putting herpehelmz on blast, peace,
Jeff Teel

PS- I also quarntine any snakes comming into the collection, but its best to keep them in clean cages too though. That could be me though, I'm just really anal on keeping cages clean.

lol everybody thinks I just enjoy watching snakes eating other snakes. It's not that way. I fed my scarlet king that brown snake before I tried feeding it pinky parts, and parts do not fill it up at all. Since that day it won't look at live snakes as food, but it did eat a F/T neonate brown snake last night.

I have the SK eating unscented pinky parts, but since even 10 of those parts would make a really small meal, I figure it's best to have it eating snakes. The quicker it grows, the quicker I can switch it over to pinkies.

Oh and hey, I know that it's best to quarantine animals, lol but I don't do that. All of my snakes are W/C.

The ringneck had a good grip on it, it dragged the shorthead under the piece of slate and was still chewing on it half an hour later.
