HELP with RETF (Mouth rot??)

arasymoi Jul 25, 2004 03:34 PM

Hi everyone.
I have two newly acquired RETF's, {one female, one male...}
The smaller, and presumably the male, seems to have some sort of infection on his mouth. It looks like part of a tongue was pushing the right side of his jaw. It's pinkish and the under the nostril is a small black patch...but it's not raised or bumpy.
It almost looks like a birth mark or tatoo.

It was fine last night, and I just noticed it now at 3:00PM
Any help would be appreciated.

I've had plent of reptiles and exotics in the past as well as now, along with these two..and never had this problem.

I have pictures, but need to find somewhere to post them and then link them...

Thank you all.

Here are two quick pictures I took to get posted.
The second is slightly blurred, but it makes it point.

The enclosure is a 20g tank, with live plants, 5-6 different types...
two mosses
and a cocunut husk chips spread over liberally to keep huimidity.

I'm not an expert with medical stuff by any means (I let my vet do all that :P) but it looks like it could be some sort of infection inside his lip, maybe a cut inside? it it could be some sort of tumor? I've seen pics of mouth rot before and it dosent look like too much like it, it was more of a darker looking patch where the jaw looked like it was being eaten away. Either way, I would sugest taking him to a vet asap. in the mean time set him up in a hospatol tank.
