Anery Boas have been around as long as I can remember. I can even remember when they were thought to be ugly! " What no red in my Red Tailed Boa!" The gene is fairly common in the imports and every year a few more fresh Anery genes are brought in. In fact 2 years ago when the Shipment of Leticia Colombian Boa came in, I was able to get a Super Light Anery Leticia Boa "right off the boat" from Ben Seigel. He will be breeding this year and I am thinking about using him to make my snow Hets, He was so light light as a fresh import that I was not sure if he was not a natrual Ghost, still not really.
Jeff Ronne breeds a beautiful line of Pastel Anery's that he calls the Ivory Boa (I have a female from that line) and they are super nice Anery Boas (and made super nice Ghost Boas this year!) It really was not until a few of the other Morph came around (like the albino and Hypo) that the Anery Boas became popular. Then us corn snake guys realized that we could do the same thing with boas too! Multi genetic mutations to make different mutations in Boas (just like the Snow Corns, Ghost Corns, Pewter Corns{Which I would guess that a Blood Boa and an Anery Boa would make a pewter Boa} and so on). The gene is great and the Morph is beautiful all on its own.
Thanks

The first anerys that came into the country were imports just like most mutations! I got my first anery as a fluke out of a batch of normals that were order for a PetSmart that I was working at in high school in the mid 90's! I am really not sure who bred them first in captivity they really didn't have much of purpose until other mutations like albinos and hypos were produced in captivity and started to be mixed in! I think Pete Produced the first snow in 1992 and I am not sure who produced the first ghost, but the first place I saw one was on Tip Powers little one page website with a killer looking ghost on it that was years ago and that Ghost had 10K price tag things sure change!

The boa that Tip had on his web site was a very ghostly looking hypo that Rich Ihle produced. I do not know what happened to this animal or what has been produced from it. I don't know of any ghost selling for more than 5000 at any point.

I remember going to Herpitfauna (speelling unsure) in Buckingham (just E. of Ft.Myers) and seeing imported Anery Boas in the mid to early 80's and they were around a long time before that also

If you want good anerys the people listed are all good. In addition I have noticed from multiple ghost litters that the anerys that come from ghost litters tend to be really nice similar to the siblings in hypo litters. If you can I would always try to get the few anerys produced from ghost x ghost or hypo het x ghost; there are normally only a few but these tend to be really nice. I have 4 year old anerys from ghost litters that still look like babies in the intensity of their color.

How do you get an anery from a ghost x ghost cross?
ghost x ghost = 100% ghost

Randall_Turner Jul 26, 2004 11:19 PM

a codom ghost to codom ghost would end up with a litter of
25% dominant ghosts
50% codominant ghosts
25% anery

Give or take depending on where the pieces fall.

I agree with Hoppy that the ivory line anerys are awesome.. Here is my near yearling (about 8 months old in the pix) ivory.

I have to say that B.E.S.T. Exotics produced some killer Anery's last year. Take a look at my yearling female...
