Help feeding Eastern Newts in "Red Eft" stage,

just_in_canada Jul 25, 2004 04:44 PM

Hi,

I have 2 wild caught Eastern Newts in the Red Eft stage. I've had them for about a week now and I am having truble getting them to eat. I've tried small crickets and even taken off their back legs, that doesn't seem to work. The guy at the local pet store sold me some "Newt Bite" pellet things, but my newts wont eat those either.

what will they eay in the red eft stage?

thanks again,

Justin.

In the red eft stage, these newts will eat tiny crickets, and fruitflies.
All the ones I have ever owned, and there have been many in my life, ate ravenously.Attacking the food like bearded dragons do.
Keep the newts cool, and damp, a water dish, and get the tiniest crickets you can find, and if you plan to keep them long term, get a fruit fly culture.
NOTE..do not house these with any other species as they are toxic to other animals...turtles frogs...etc.
