skin question

haveagreenday Jul 25, 2004 09:02 PM

My ball python has, almost blister like bumps on her scales. The are white in color. I have given her a warm soak, and I thought maybe they were mites but they seem to big. And they don't move so I don't think they are ticks. I am taking her off aspen tommorow and putting her on paper towels. Also her eyes were cloudy like she was going to shed and now they are clear. Can anyone help me?

Thanks

Also I am planning on taking her to the vet soon. Ans she is about 3-4 months old and 20 inches. She was eating well but I haven't fed becuase I thought she was going to shed. Should I feed her again?

Right before a shed, the snakes eyes will get cloudy, then they will go clear again, and shortly after (1-2 days) they will shed. Your snake should be shedding really soon if the eyes just went clear. The white bumps on the skin probably has to do with the shed. Just wait until after it sheds, and I am sure everything will be fine. Good luck.

Give it the couple days to shed, when the eyes cloud up, they are in the midst of a shed, and need to make sure they have plenty of water and humidity (but not too much !) so that they can slide out of it properly.

When the eyes clear up, they are almost ready to actually lose the old skin, generally within 2 to 3 days they will climb out of the old one.

As far as the bumps, I have never, personally, seen such a thing happen simply due to shed... so keep a CLOSE, CLOSE eye on it.. give it until the snake sheds, and if those bumps are still there, take it TO A VET as soon as is possible...
