Pics of Norbert !!!!!!!!

Lyn Jul 25, 2004 11:34 PM

Hi everyone. My new "baby" arrived safely this afternoon. He is a total love and I'm just thrilled with him. He had not been out of his enclosure for 2 years. They put a towel over him and lifted him out and into the travel tub. He had to wait quite a while in the tub while they took his cage apart and loaded it into the truck, and him into the jeep, then a 2 hour drive, then into my house but stayed in the tub until we got the cage in and put together, so he was in the tub for about 5 hours. I opened the top to get my first full look at him and he was not a happy Iggy at all. He stood up, dewlap out, tail ready to go, very intimidating sight. I decided if I couldn't handle him I shouldn't have gotten him so I reached in and picked him up and he did very well for an Iggy who has not been handled in 2 years except that morning with the towel. I carried him down the stairs and stopped to get our picture taken, then into the enclosure. His owner lifted the one door and scratched him on the head and he was fine. I thought I'd wait a while to do that, but only held out for about 15 minutes and just had to try. He let me scratch him all over, except his tail. Even let me remove some stuck shed from his face with no fuss. He has a bit of a problem with his mouth, it's red and "crusty" looking. It was mentioned on her vet paperwork that she brought (she had a vet come do a house call because he had started to act aggressive). But the vet just wrote to keep an eye on it and didn't prescribe any treatment. I'm going to ask my vet for a second opinion. He doesn't do house calls so Norbert might be in for another car ride. I'm afraid it's a bit of mouth rot which would need to be treated immediately, not sure why her vet just wrote to "watch it". His shelf looked hard so I gave him a folded night shirt for a pillow which he seemed to enjoy. Sorry for the babble, just so very excited. Here are some pics. Lots more on my website (link in my sig www.LynsLair.com)

Me and Norbert

Showing me how he climbs up to his shelf

With his improvised "pillow"

He closes his eyes when he gets petted. Is this a good thing or bad thing?

Such a handsome fellow! (well, I'm a bit partial hehehe)

VERY GOOD LOOKING IG!!!!!! he is so cool! can't wait til mine get that big-they are both about 5 to 6 inches from snout to vent-how long will it take to get that big? how long to get 1/2 that big? well anyways, that eye closing thing is good-it shows he trusts you-my iguanas do that when i pet them too-well one does-the other is not tame yet-it is bad when igs puff up and lean to the oppisite side of what you are-that means they are going to whip! lol and/or bite-trust me i would know because of my untamed iguana! lol well very nice ig hope to here from you again-i can't wait till tommarow-my igs are getting sexed!!!!!

Hi Lyn! I noticed your name while reading posts when I was researching Iggys. Mine is short for Lynda which is my full name. In high school I went throught that "need a new name" phase and went with Lyn. At work I'm Lynda, so I always have to keep track of who I'm talking to and whether they know me as Lyn or Lynda when I call and say who I am or sign an email.

I can't even imagine 5 Iguanas. That must be great. Wish I had the space for more, but Norbert is going to have to remain an only Iggy. My husband was very upset when I said I was getting an Iguana. Now that he's here he has resigned himself to the fact and is getting better. Won't go down and see him on his own yet (that will come later). Pretty soon he'll be telling people about him and taking his friends down to show them. He warms up slow, but at least he warms up. He'll never touch him or take care of him, but just acceptance is all I ask. I accept his love of football and video games, but that doesn't mean I'm rushing in to watch a football game or watch him play the video games.

Do you have a website with pics of your Iguanas? Are they all adults? Do they live together?

He really is gorgeous, and looks so contented already! And I just love the enclosure. Beautiful, and the trays at the bottom are such a good idea. What kind of substrate do you have in there?

Congratulations & let us know how he settles in.

Lyn Jul 27, 2004 07:39 AM

Thanks. The enclosure is awesome, they did a great job, but it needs more shelves and places for him to climb, lots of wasted space. The bottom is Plexi Glass so you can't walk in w/out standing where the support beams are. I am going to replace it with a wood floor covered with linoleum. The trays are nice and make cleaning easier. She has cat litter in there and I don't like it at all. Very dusty. It's all over the cage and all over him, when you pet him he's dusty. I'm dumping it this weekend and replacing it with newspaper or water. Or maybe Newspaper in one and water in the other. His skin is very dry. He was not misted or bathed. Lots of stuck shed. I've been misting him daily and as soon as I can get a good pair of gloves or something to protect my arms then I'm going to start soaking him in the tub. I thought water in the bottom pans might raise the humidity and allow him to soak a bit on his own. He doesn't ever hang out on the bottom of the enclosure. Just goes down to dig and go to the bathroom. He could go to the bathroom in the water, as long as I clean it immediately and he still has his bowl of clean water to drink. What do you think? I'd like to try it this weekend when I'm home to watch him. I bought him a bigger shelf and a new ramp last night. And some fabric to make pillows for him. He's using my night shirt for a pillow now.

What a great looking ig! You can almost FEEL your excitement! LOL.

Good luck. I'm sure you'll be telling us stories soon! Can't wait to hear em.

Congrats to both of you, you for your new "love & to him for a great new home!

PS...Sometimes Forest gets stuff on his mouth chin & if he won't let me wash his face, I stick him in the tub for a soak & it comes off. Hope yours is nothing serious.

Wow. What a beautiful iguana!!! How old is he?

Lyn Jul 29, 2004 07:36 AM

He was hatched August of 1999 so this August he's turn 5 years old. I'll have to do something special!

He is BEAUTIFUL!!! Very Manly!!! I Love Him!!! Makes me even more positive that my "Walter" is a female. Here is a pic of Walter Anne to compare.

Lyn Jul 29, 2004 07:38 AM

I'm obviously new to Iggys, but yes I agree from your picture that Walter looks like a girl. Very pretty!
