I keep seeing people say they have problems with the TRex supps like I've had. Please read.

I see people post they their dragons seemed to have slowed down using the Trex supps. My situation is the same and I have additional things that have happened which seem to point to the Trex supps.

My oldest beardie used to be on regular veggies with herptivite multvitamin supps and calcium supps. During this time he loved to dig in his wheat bran box. Was fairly active and liked to drink a lot of water.

I decided to start using the Trex VGF on his salads. A week or so into it his activity level began to decline. He stopped digging all together. There were times when he was the most colorful I've seen him but just sat there and didn't move much at all. He also didn't drink near as much water as usual. Also, he seemed to have areas towards his vent, where I think his kidneys are, that seemed to have a more swollen feel to them. He also seemed to strain somewhat when he pood and his urates seemed rock hard and sometimes discolored. I decided I would take him off the supps.

Within a week of taking him off the supps. his activity level increased somewhat and his urates and exertion when pooing seemed to be back to normal. I continued with just regular salad for a couple of weeks except I would supplement the Trex a day or two towards the end of that time. Everything seemed to be going well with him so I decided I'd switch to the Trex supps again but this time I'd use the VMF since I saw his growth had slowed down tremendously, which was normal for his age.

I had been using them for a couple of months now and decided I'd continue to use them and have some bloodwork done in August to see how all the levels were. I decided about 3 weeks ago I couldn't keep using the Trex supps because my beardie began to have other problems like bad sheds and a fungus seemed to begin to appear on his bellie. He didn't drink hardly any water either and he basically sat around 99% of the time. I thought the laziness and lack of thirst was probably normal due to his age.

Well he has been off the Trex for 3-4 weeks now and the changes have been very noticeable. As soon as I took him off the Trex supps I treated him with Acidipholiz and bathed him in Nolvosan. The bad skin has shed off and his activity level has skyrocketed. He used to sit and watch my other beardie bob his head at him without hardly moving but now he bobs right back and runs around the tank quite a bit. He drinks ten times as much water compared to when on the supps and frankly seems to be happier and more healthy overall.

I'll say it again that it may not be the same for all beardies but my experience tells me the Trex supps are a bad thing for my beardie. I've been through it twice now and both trials produced basically the same results. The only difference is the first time on the supps he didn't get any skin problems but I think it's possible he just wasn't on the supps long enough.

I also have read other people saying things don't seem right while their beardies are on the supps. Taking everything into consideration I think there are some beardies who should just not use the Trex supps. I also think if you do use them watch very closely for any changes in behavior or health because myself and others here have noticed negative effects when using them.

First time I tried them with my dragons was February. I had no problem with the young dragon, but my adult male was pretty lethargic. He was also fighting off intestinal parasites so I figured his lethargy was due to being sick. When the parasites went back to normal levels but he still wasn't acting normal, my vet recommended putting him back on the old supps to see what happens. I switched both dragons back to the old supps and things pretty much went back to normal. Five months went by, so I thought I might try them again, now that I have two healthy dragons to use them on, and see if there was any difference. This time it was the younger dragon who got lethargic, and also he lost interest in chasing crickets like he had been.

I guess it's just all too much to be coincidence. I'll be putting them back onto the old method of suppliments, since I never had a problem using those. I guess like you said, it just isn't meant to be for some dragons. Oh well.

Did you contact the company? What did they say?

CheriS Jul 28, 2004 08:40 AM

that there are problems with a product and yes the company has been contacted and they will not even respond to acknowledge they have emails or people writting with concerns. But I do see its put on sale at reptiledirect.com, reptilesupply.com and petsmart

Every place that I have seen post about complication with dragons on T-Rex supplements (dragon dust) a few others that seem to be advocated for the company go off on them for bashing a company. They can not seem to see its not "bashing a company" Its MANY owners have serious symptoms in their dragons that appears related to the product. I have been staying out of them lately due to all the harassment from when we first posted about this months ago.

One owner on yahoo Pogona list that was upset that we were questioning if other were having problems with dragon dust, a few weeks later found her dragon having the same issues and not til we gave her a list of symptoms that others are having did she realize that it was also related to her using it. Once she stopped, the symptoms went away in the dragon and she realized we were trying to warn people if they have those symptoms and use dragon dust to stop and see if it does not improve the situation. Link to her post below

I have no idea why some dragons are sick or having problems on them and why others do not, I do know that there are enough people reporting the same change in dragon behavior with lethergic, constipation, dehydration from cells and skin and other problems that go along with that, to take a close look and see if someone really wants to use a product like that over one that is tried and proven.

Especailly when the company selling it will not repsond to any emails asking what is the testing that they claim they conducted for years, what where the control group differences and can anyone see those test results.

I have another real issue with why is there a ingredient in it that is to pull more Phosphorus out of food when we want less Ph in them and higher Ca, most dragon salads are already very high in Ph.......same question my vet has who has treated dragons with problems.

Now when people are reporting babies dying suddenly that appeared healthy, one thing we are asking if they were on these supplements and to have a necrospy and the Ph checked. Thats not saying we think the product is killing them, but it is a way to see if there is a pattern emerging with users of it.
