New to tree boas...

newherpaddict Jul 26, 2004 01:18 PM

Hi, I have a juvenile Green Tree Python and was interested in something similar and different all at the same time. I want a snake that doesnt get any bigger than a chondro with a generally decent temprement (like an Aru GTP). I was lookin at ATBs which are gorgeous but I am getting mixed messages about their temperaments. Then I heard about Solomon Island Tree Boas but then I realized that they are candoia and they seem to be odd and I can't find much info about them. I was wondering what you think I would be interested in. Thanks, Mike.

solomon are cool. Most are imports = frog eaters which is tough! Most ATB are nasty but thats part of the charm. The market is flooded w/ GTP which sucks....so ive been switchen my collection BACK too aboreal boas OH well good luck

I'm considering an ATB. Hey, don't even talk bad about GTPs!!! LOL!

Hey Mike. Bottom line is that *MOST* ATB's will be nippy. I have had a few that could be handled with little fear (notice I didn't say no fear! haha!) of getting nailed but most were unpredictable if not downright aggressive. I typically "handle" my ATB's with a 2 foot or so length of wood doweling or a 1x2 when doing cage cleanings, etc. The things that make up for that attitude are their gorgeous colors, hardiness (once acclimated/started) relative ease of breeding and modest size. Good luck with your search. Billy

hi, i also worried about ATB temperaments but it really depends on the individual, i was lucky and got a real calm one so just try and find one with a calm personality
