"Non-locality" easterns hatching

crimsonking Jul 26, 2004 02:00 PM

I was a bit surprised today when I looked in on these guys. Actually I was checking some others and noticed the tell-tale trails in the sphagnum. They have definitely taken some from their rather large father and not their smallish mother. Something I'm glad for! the last baby easterns I had were TINY and not very good looking at all. I'll put a pic or two up after their 1st shed. Not sure they'll be hungry as they sure are FAT! At 10 1/2" - 11 1/2" they have a good start.

How many did you end up with ? They look jice and beefy from the top view you posted.

Keith, the little female laid only 6 eggs, but if you remember I asked if you thought he (my big male) was too damn big for her. Well, apparently not. The eggs she laid really grew in size over the incubation period and the babies are much bigger than I had in mind, but like I said, "it's just fine with me" that they're starting out really hefty. As big as any kings I've hatched.

..because its the day before my wifes birthday and I tend to forget.

Have a good one!

.. we wish her a happy one as well. My partner, Bill's wife has a birthday the day before mine on the 25th. I thought it was cool that I had some snakes hatch out on the 26th (MY birthday) espescially since I had not hatched easterns before now.

Ya , I know what you mean by hatching out snakes on your birthday. The best birthday I ever had was about 15 years ago. I went by myself to a dirt road on april 6th near Lake Elsinore Calif. There was a unusual heat wave with Santa Ana wind conditions that day. I caught 16 rosy boas between 4pm and 10pm. Hands down the best birthday eva.
