Entertain Me....What do you think this.....

John Q Jul 26, 2004 09:13 PM

Entertain Me....What do you think this hatchling is, normal or anery? It's not out yet and obviously it will be easier to tell as soon as it does leave the egg. Ignore the eyes, just look at the body. More details about the eyes later, I'll place a follow-up post to explain about the red eyes.

I am very new to snakes. My husband and son caught this gopher...and it has the best personality of all three of our snakes. I have a scarlet king and my son has a pueblan milksnake.

Anyway...is this w/c gopher the same as your snake that's hatching? If not, can you tell me what it is?

Thanks!

Lisa

oops...I meant to post this pic....

I would like to see a better pic of the one under the log. A good dorsal and side view if possible.
Thanks

Here is one more pic...

John, can you please be specific on the picture you want? Thanks

I just wanted to see it better. The first pic under the log did not show enough of the snake to tell what it is.The forum seems dead right now. I was hoping to stimulate some post. That hatchling of mine has a different look. I'm waiting on a couple more to hatch. The second one to pip, drowned in the egg. I'm working with some locality specific SD gophers and a pair that are what is currently in the market. The female is albino het for anery and the male is anery poss. het for albino. These are the same as what is in the market right now. I bred that male anery to a locality female. I have two from the same general area. One is an anery but a different anery from what is currently available. She has red eyes. She will not be ready until next year. The female that is ready may prove out to be a het and the gene may be compatible with the anery gene that is already in the marketplace. That's why I wanted to get opinions of the hatchling. Next years breeding would be a second test of the two genes.
What about the snake in the pics? what is it and where did you collect it from?

Hey John...

I'm pretty sure this is a Pacific Gopher. It was caught near fresno california, in the foothills. We go road hunting quite a bit...we've seen several western diamond backs, DOR 50/50 cal kings and a few gopher snakes. This w/c gopher has the BEST personality I've ever seen (not that I've seen too many though).

Good luck with your snakes!

Lisa
