New hatchling water depth question

Doug-P Jul 26, 2004 09:47 PM

I just got 2 hatchling florida snappers. They are the size of a quarter, still have there egg tooth.
These are my first small ones. How deep should the water be?
I kept it to were there backs were out of the water for a couple of days. They try to keep there heads up, out of the water.
How deep can they handle at this size?
Thanks, Doug

General rule for any hatchling aquatic turtle is that the water should be as deep as the shell is long or as deep as possible as long as they can still breath while touching the bottom. This is pretty deep for snappers becasue of their long necks.

make sure for the most part that they're able to breathe while on the bottom. I also have had areas where the water is real shallow for them and areas where it's real deep for them.
