Today I came home to my red tegu, Dolarhyde, and found her dead, I have no idea why she really died but I felt and even still feel empty inside. Luckily I still have my black and white tegu Apocolypse, I was to introduce them next week but that has changed. If nobody minds I would really like if anyone has any clues on why she could have died...

Thanks

At the bottom is a picture of her when i first got her.

Rest in Peace Dolorhyde

Maybe the substrate choked it while eating on it, if it still ate like the pic shows. Just a thought, Im had a snake go like that once. It was an expensive lesson (high end snake). I never feed on substrate anymore. I know I'd choke on a mouth full of aspen wood chips or any other for that matter. I'm So sorry to hear of your loss. I just got a tegu 4 weeks ago and absolutely love the thing.

Sorry for your loss. With tegu personalities, it's really easy to get so attached. Maybe if you post information on your temps, substrata, food items, any behavior changes, etc., someone can give you a clue, but the only way to know for sure is to have your vet do a necropsy. Unless you have a vet that has a real fascination for 'after the fact' diagnoses, it's pretty expensive, though.

I wish you the best with your remaining tegu.

my guess' are substrate impactation....bacterial infection, systemic infection

but those are just guess' , you need to take it to the vet immediately upon discovery, otherwise there is no telling. Waiting will make it harder to determine, but the impacting of substrate in the tegus intestinal tract would be obvious still....

that sucks that this happened, i am sorry for your loss
