New Pac Man Frog

kya Jul 26, 2004 10:55 PM

Hi = )

I just got an albino pac man frog, and "he" is about 3 months old, so not very big yet. I know "what" to feed him, but how much? I'm giving him crickets so far, and need to know how many and how often....I am a first time frog owner, and clueless!

Also, the pet store recommended lining his aquarium with moist earth mixture that they sell...and to put about 2 inches in there, so I did...he likes to burrow, sometimes completely...will he suffocate himself and die this way? should I ditch the dirt?

I know not to put too much water in his dish, because the silly creatures drown easily, but I worry he cannot breathe beneath the dirt. And, too....I bought a small heating pad, the "cobra" brand, and it doesn't seem all too warm when i touch the bottom..it only covers one small corner of the tank, too.

Is this enough? does he need a heat rock or a better pad? I live in southern california, so the inside temp of the house is around 80 currently...

Also...does he need to be misted with the spray bottle, or do I only mist his tank?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just worried. I can't really tell if he's happy or not....he's kind of hard to read.

Thanks in advance!

Congrats on your new Pac-man.
I am also a proud owner of one.
I also live in So-Cal.
I keep mine in a medium critter keeper w/ damp mulch and moss, he also has a soaking dish he uses when needeed.
I mist him and cage every 2 days and feed him crickets, worms and small pinkies. I do not use a heat pad.He does not need it.
Room temp is fine unless your house gets too cold, otherwise you might over heat him and make him ill. You said 80 right? No need for you to use a heat pad.
They are very easy pets to keep.
Hope this helps.
