wow tokay ate. please read and respond if possible

violator Jul 26, 2004 11:52 PM

WWWWOOOOOHHHHOOOOO i seen my baby tokay eat tonight.
Wow it was a huge cricket, the cricket was twice the size of his head or close to that. My tokay jumped at it and bit it, after which my tokay held on to it and after several seconds took it too his hide, along the side of the tank, then vilently shook the cricket and then swollowed it down.
Sorry for the poor spelling, i am just so proud that my baby ate in front of me! It was great to see!!!
i am sure that i shouldnt feed such a large cricket, but my tokay got it down alright though, the cricket seemed to move all the way down.
By the way my tokay is called Attilla. I should post a pic of him soon.

How soon should i try to handle him?

He is a baby and only about 2 and 1/2 inchs long. He ate a cricket twice and big as his head about this time! He is so cute. I know they say if you want to tame them you have to handle them as a young but i just dont want to bother him. I guess i like mean lizards. i want my pet that will rip apart any thing i give them lol.
i dont see how you may handle a baby tokay, they are fast and small. So how to accually grab one is beyond me. I have touched him, but when i try more then one finger he barks and jumps all over. So how do you catch them to handle them?
Please respond its nice to know some one has read what i took the time to write.

Dont feed him crickets bigger than his head. He may choke. Infact from your story I would say that he was quite lucky....Anyway I would just put your hand near him and see how he reacts. If you do this every day for a few days he should stop running a way. Then try to touch him and only then handle. Thats what I did.
