I just saw my male and one of my females mating. My male was biting the female and looked really aggressive. I thought he was going to kill her so I pulled him out of the cage. As much as he bit her on the tail, body and head, he left no marks and pierced no skin. Is this normal?

Yes, that's completely normal during mating. If the female just sits there and allows the male to bite her, it is okay, but if she starts to fight back you need to separate them.

It might appear quite violent at times, but that's just the way geckos do things. So long as she's not really injured, all is well.
