Sunlight and San Diego?

Elfunko Jul 27, 2004 03:04 AM

I thought I read in somebodys post that glass reflects UVB sunlight or something like that. Is this true? Can you house Chameleons in a greenhouse type enviroment and still know they are getting 100% natural light, or will the glass nullify the benefits by reflecting a necessary wavelength?

Also, are there any Chameleon owners on here in San Diego? I'd be stoked to see how others care for their Chams and their chams.

Finally, I once saw how to build an outdoor enclosure. I need that info now but I can't seem to find it. Does anybody know what I'm referring to and have a link?

About greenhouses...there is some glass that will allow passage of UVB; low iron glass I think. Greenhouses may or may not use this type of glass, as plants are not as picky about the UV spectrum as herps. You would have to know the what type of glass you have. Also, if there are screen panels in the greenhouse that you can open and let the cham get to it could get full sun benefit.

There are lots of cham keepers in San Diego, but how to reach them I don't know. Maybe check with herp suppliers and herp clubs in the area?

You may want to look into screenhouses instead of greenhouses as you would not have to worry about cooling walls which you would definately want with a greenhouse. I build a lot of my own cages and it is really not that hard to do if you get an idea of what you want and want some help post here or e-mail me and I will see if I can give you some advice. Just be patient as I am not online everyday.
