Blacktailed indigo tank temp?

Lick_um Jul 27, 2004 07:30 AM

Long time reader, first time poster.
I have just recently purchased a blacktailed indigo from a captive born breeder. He was 3 weeks old when I got him. The breeder told me that minimal heat was required for him. I currently have him in a 65 gal. tank. Which I was told would be sufficiant for him for life. My question arrises in reguards to the temperature of the tank... I was told that he would need no more than a 15 Watt heat light (and that was in the dead of winter). Other than that I was told he would need no heat. I just wasnt sure if a heat rock on pad would be ok to use for him, and also if I should keep the tank at a constant tempurature and if so what is that tempurature?

Thank you

Here's a good caresheet that applies. Care for unicolors and Blacktails are the same.

a 65 gallon tank is WAY too big for a neonate. he feels lost in there. start him out in a plastic shoe box [max] and ambient daytime temps in the summer are all you'll need. in the winter, i just raise mine up a bit to where the air is somewhat warmer. cribos dislike direct heat! good luck!.........
