Aquaflames hatch in Vivarium

JohnStyner Jul 27, 2004 09:47 AM

I was pleased to find 3 hatchlings over the past week so far from clutches laid in my big viv months ago. I didn;t know the eggs were there. My viv hatches eggs better than I do. I might get some Umas too. here is a pic of a Af Collared popping out. Can you spot em?

How in the world did they stay moist enough...did they lay close to a plant?

Good job, John

more hardy than we know. I have hatched desert iguana and collared eggs in the vivarium. I too did not even know they were there. Also one time I was cleaning all the dirt out of a vivarium and dumping it in the back forty. On about my third trip I noticed eggs scattered in the dump pile. I collected them not knowing what they were and stuck them in the incubator. 30 days later 3 out of the 4 hatched little dipsos. Also one time I had a potted plant in a basilisk vivarium. I dismantled the vavarium and gave my wife her house plant back. About a month later I started finding baby basilisk around the house. They hatched out of the potted plant at a room temp of about 70F.

I also think sometimes WE try to hard with the eggs. Seems just left to be, they did fine.

Very neat posts, glad they hatched , and popped out of the sand,

AREN'T LITTLE SUPRISES FUN!

and the viv is pretty much water tight. I water the plants every 2-3 weeks so there has always been a moist area. They certainly have a broad selection of heat and moisture to choose from.

Yes he is above the rounded leave jade plant in the foreground poking just his head up in front of the partially buried rock. I didnt want to make it too easy to find him.
The hatchlings are a munchable size and i wonder if any got eaten.
