Shedding

I awoke this morning to find Zeek with large patches of skin coming off.....really cool since i've never seen him shed. I'm just curious...do they eat their skin like leopard geckos?

Thanks

Yep. With mine I usually have to catch them doing it at about 2am or I just find them with really nice colors in the morning.

Only thing I ever notice is a tiny piece of skin left on he tips of toes caught on the nail. They'll get then when they realize it effects them walking on glass lol.

Thankyou it appears all of the skin is gone.....he's currently stuck to the glass at the back of the cage. His tail is also clear of any pieces

After eating all that skin it makes sence why there still crickets in his cage. I'd try to fish them out but Zeek has become wise the workings of the screen top and has made a few attempts to get out while i've got it open. If he moves down away from the top i'll try but right now he's in a position to make one leap and be out LOL.

He's really tiny, about 1-1 1/2 inches nose to vent. Handling him is hard so as long as i feed him by hand once in a while and keep putting my hand in his cage (hold it there for a few minutes at a time) is it Ok to assume he'll be used to me and be easier to handle as he gets bigger?

Red,
Yeah handling him will become much easier as he gets older .

How often do they shed? Iv'e had mine a week this past Sat. and they show no sign of a shed yet.

I have no clue how often they shed at all lol. I've had my guy around a month now and this was the first time i've seen him shed. He spent most of yesterday and this morning behind the plants at the back so it was hard to get a clear view of him but when i got home from work tonight he was right up at the front and he looks amazing. Really light on his underside and a dark rusty colour on top

Ya know what's funny about this? Last night when i turned the lights out.....i noticed him chewing @ his toes & thought it was odd, so, i sneaked in for a closer peek, only to find him in full shed.....lol, that explains his strange behavior yesterday as well. *grin*

It is really interesting to watch a gecko shed. I had to go to work so i didn't get to watch Zeek much but i did see him rubbing the skin off his head. The first time my leopard gecko shed i watched from beginning to end and that was cool. He almost got it all off in one large piece, like removing a wet suit. Speaking of which he was rubbing his head yesterday on his cave so i think he shed again too
