My vet said its ok to feed a bit every now and again as a treat. As well as to give a girl that has laid eggs and needs to have a little added fat

Ozzys main diet consist of Collard and mustard greens, a bit of dandelion, parsley and Escarole, butternut squash, green beans, some nastursium flowers(just cause i have them right now), cantalope and strawberrys or blueberrys. But i vary it as much as i can. So he isnt getting the same thing all the time. And when you introduce new stuff dont get discouraged if he doesnt eat it at first. Just keep giving it to him and he will. Hope that helps. Tami

Xander gets a daily salad conisting of:

collard greens, turnip green, mustard greens, bok choy (or swiss chard, but not both), cilantro, watercress, green beans, and yellow squash (or sweet potato, but not both - or winter squashes when in season).

Some weeks I throw in a small amount of parsley.

To his daily salad one of the following (depending on what I'm feeding the birds and what I have in the fridge apples, oranges, green or orange or red bell pepper, plums, mango, peas, carrots, pears, tomatoes... basically any safe food I can find in the produce isle. Variety is key.

I know that avocado is toxic for birds, so I'd avoid it with igs just to be safe.

I was unaware of the toxicity to birds.. I have fed a small amount to my 7yr old ig on a few seperate occasions with no(visable) ill-effects.

Apparently it is the part of the fruit that is in contact with the skin that's toxic. And I guess it's hit & miss with birds, the same as chocolate with dogs.

But besides that, it's just waaaaaaaaaaaaay too fatty for an ig's digestive system.

So better safe than sorry, IMHO. Especially when there are so many other healthy things you can give your ig as treats.

collard greens are probably the best greens to feed because they contain the most of what they need out of all of them. (I could be wrong about that though. it's been a while since I looked at the chart.) My iggys like butternut squash the best out of all the other stuff. actually they go nuts for it. Then there are canned green beans(no salt). I am still not convinced that thay are good for them so I give it to them in moderation. They will jump out of the cage for it though. I'm not sure if I should have even mentioned it to you until I was sure it's good for them. Do some research and see if it is good for them before feeding it to them. Then only once in a while.
