Food Size and Care Question.

micky-kennie Jul 27, 2004 03:33 PM

I have had experience with many reptiles and with toads, but have never kept a dart frog before, and am now considering it. I am in the process of building a vivarium for them, and will not buy any frogs until it is well established, but I still have one other major hesitation. It is the ease of feeding dart frogs small food items. I have had limited experience with small food (I have fed anoles and baby panther chameleons) but all grew out of their small food quickly, and I have never had to keep small insects for a permanet food source.

My question is how easy is it and can anyone give me some pointers about how to keep small insects and feed them to dart frogs. How small of food will I feed them when they are full grown? I'm considering P. Terriblis (mint), D. Leucomelas, and D tincorius, becasue I undestand these are more active and bold, hardy, and larger. I would have no more than a pair. Sorry that this is so long, just want to make sure I have my bases covered. Thanks!

The three frogs you listed are great frogs to start with. Culturing fruit flys will be your best bet when keeping any dart frog. It is very easy and takes little time and effort. good luck
