mister_pokey Jul 27, 2004 03:57 PM

I know this thread has been brought up before but it was with little result..

I was wondering if anyone has this bulb 100 or 150 watt
and what the results of its use were, do you still use it. why or why not?
How does you cham do with it?
How does your plant do with it?

I've been using the 100 watt PowerSun for a while now, and it's the best UV light out there and it's the best Heat bulb out there.

I used to use the Exo-Terra heat bulbs and decided to try the PowerSun. My plants have been doing a lot better with it and have had no wilting problems since using it. And my veild is doing a lot better. He use to roam a lot and hide near the bottom, but now he spends a lot of time just basking underneath the heat. Whether that's because of the PowerSun or what, I don't know. But my cham looks a lot better and is doing great. And my schefflera and pothos plants are doing a lot better. Before, I struggled to keep them alive, even though I was using a 24" ReptiSun flourescent tube light and an ESU Super Coil light. I still use them with the PowerSun and it works amazingly well.

I got one for my new cage that I am setting up next month. How far away do you put the lamp from the basking area and what is the temp of it as well (basking area)? Thanks.

It's about a little over a foot from my cage. Add about 5 inches to that and thats how far the bulb is from the basking branch. For my veiled, the basking temperature is 90-95 degrees F. Rarely it goes to about 100 on hot summer days.

I have and still use this for my savannah monitor, it has held up and worked well. Just my limited knowledge!

well, I am a little late on this thread so I don't know if anyone is reading it or not, but I got the 100w in the winter and have had to replace it once already b/c it would go off for no reason and then come back on. One day it never came back on. ZooMed replaced as promised but I had to pay shipping. Well, earlier this week it is doing the same thing! If I have to replace it again and pay shipping again I'll be pissed. I don't think I should have to pay shipping for a faulty product. I am beginning to wonder if it is the clamp lamp that it is in - or if that is even possible. Anyone know?

When it is working, Luna defintely makes a choice to bask under that light for awhile and her heat lamp at other times so I am glad she has the choice and must somehow sense the UVB vs. heat.
