lol I just came up with that, you like it? I felt that really really fit what I've been going through for the past 2 weeks.
Well, Giant finally laid her last egg say about 2 weeks ago(can't remember). Then I got lucky and was able to find her a salamander a few days after and she took it greedily. Then I couldn't find any for 4 days and when I did find one it was very small, a 1 inch salamander is not much of a meal for a 20 inch snake. She took that as well very greedily.
Nobody I talked to could get me any type of food items, it's been raining here for the good portion of the summer, and I hate the rain. But last night it rained so much that it looked like a river was flowing down my street.
I decided to go salamander hunting at my same old usual spot that I discovered while herping with a friend in May. We lifted up a few boards to find about 15 adult slimy salamanders, each about 6 inches long start running in different directions, a very funny thing to see. I happened to find a small slimy salamander, about 2 inches long, I figured atleast this little thing will tie the snake over until someone can send me some anoles
I went home, lifted up the rock in Giant's tank and opened up the salamander container, she started flicking her toungue. It was then that I noticed she was about to shed(I am pretty sure she is gonna double clutch, she mated with 2 other males after laying eggs). Well I dropped the salamander in with her and she chased it, grabbed it by the tail and swung it to the other side of the tank, the salamander released it's tail and crawled away. She was so pumped and excited from the smell of food that she would strike at anything moving in the tank(the aroma of salamander was still in the air). Well, I took the salamander out and placed it back into it's container and went and got a pinky mouse. I rubbed the pinky's head into the salamander, the salamander was cooperative and released alot of slime onto the pinky. I put the pinky in the tank and Giant grabbed it and started chewing, well I'm thinking she relized it wasn't a salamander and let it go, so I got alot more salamander slime all over the pinky's body and held it right in front of Giant, she grabbed it. I held it there for a few seconds while she got a good grip on it and then I let it go. She began eating it, and swallowed the whole thing in about 5 minutes. I know somebody is gonna ask, yes I got pics.
Not only did I succeed in getting her to eat a pinky, I handfed it to her. Now I'm not gonna get cocky with this because I know she only took it because her eyes were clouded up and she couldn't see very well, she was looking for food by smell.
Sorry for all the words again, got carried away.
