cage for a tree frog

five-o Jul 27, 2004 06:33 PM

Now that I've decided to get a gray TF, I considered buying a 20 gal extra high, or building a 36 x 18 x 18 wood and plexiglass tank. Have any of you built a tank before, and if so how did it work out. I have FBT's in a reptarium now, but I'm not real pleased with it. thanks

I would recommend buying the 20g high tank and see how you like it, then go a head and build a tank if you feel it is necessary.good luck

where in south bend is a good place to buy one(low cost)? Thanks

I get almost all my tanks from Meijer. I believe a 20 g high is 20-25 bucks, as opposed to overpriced tanks at petco or petsmart. good luck

Heres a 50 gallon i built for two whites. I"ve posted directions before, i can find them then post them up latter, but im in a bit of a rush at the moment, but you can look through the last few pages and see if you cam find it if you need them now.

I found a 20 high for $23 and a 30 high for $32 at Ewerts in Niles, MI. They also have a 27 gal hex for 65 or 70, what do you think about that? Seems like you can add more cage furniture to those.

I've called Ewert's a few times about some of their stock availability but have never been there. I would go with the 30 gallon or the hex, but i don't like the hexagon tanks as much b/c they tend to cost a lot more. The 30g will be sufficient room for up to three adult greys, but two would be better. good luck

I'm not sure what they did then, because they have so much stuff in there. There is about any size tank you want up to several hundred gallons. They also have just about everything else in there. I bought my cage yesterday. I got the 27 gal hex-my wife preferred this design since it would be in our livingroom. It looked a lot bigger until I got everything it there. I hope I can get a pic though because it's a pretty cool set-up. I got some cork bark, moss, and other wood(grape something). Looks like a little forest. My pond is a little big though. It's a 12" dish that is taking up too much room. I need one about 8". Anyway, I got my two frogs last night. Beautiful green colored gray tree frogs. There are dozens to pick from here, and I made sure I only got the males. They were croaking 30 minutes after they were in there. Cool except I was trying to go to bed lol.

Have they been feeding well?

five-o Jul 31, 2004 09:12 AM

Hard to tell. They really seem to like the hiding spots I made for them, because they don't come out until dark, then they usually start croaking when the frogs outside start in. When you have a nocturnal frog like this who hides all day, how can you monitor its feeding? I put in a few dusted crickets but they disappeared into the moss and bark.

You can use a red light to view at night. The frogs cant see it. What you may want to do is put them in a 10gallon or so when you feed them to moniter feeding, just put paper towels on the bottom and watch. If the crickets are gone in the morning or while you watch then you know they ate that time. You may also want to take the moss out so the crickets can't hide in it. You can also try had feeding, dangle a cricket infront of the frog by its legs and see what happens. I believe you said these are wild caught from your yard? so if they began to appear thin i'd let them go and get a tree frog that is from a captive bred source. give me an e-mail if you have any more questions amphibianfreak@yahoo.com good luck
