Will a female lay eggs without something to nest in?

aps929 Jul 27, 2004 09:29 PM

I've got 1.1 leos and the female I suspect is gravid. She has been getting a large abdomen and spending a lot of time basking. They are on paper towels and have no place to nest besides hides. Will she still lay them if she's gravid?

thanks.

Do you have a humid hide? If not, you need one! She will lay her eggs in the humid hide (I use coir "coconut" substrate in my hides). Sometimes the females will lay eggs anywhere...that is a bad thing! Usually those eggs are infertile anyway. Sometimes they won't lay eggs & become "eggbound"...also a bad thing! Put in a little plastic hide with some moist substrate (perlite, vermiculite or coir will work)& she should find it adequate for egglaying.

There is a humid hide, but it's just a container with water soaked paper towels in the bottom. I could just get some pearlite at Walmart and replace the papertowels with that.
