Please help with heating pad problem

msubigdawg Jul 27, 2004 09:37 PM

I have an Exo-terra heat pad for my Colombian Red Tail. She is in a rubbermaid container and the problem is the temp is to high. I plugged my heat pad to a reohostat (however you spell it). I put it on low and yet my temps are still over 100 degrees. I put the thermometer under the bedding, ontop of the pad and thats where the temps are reading over 100. Does anybody have any ideas for help. I thought maybe a thermostat would make it work or do you think I will have to buy a different brand of heat pad.

Go to Home Depot and buy an 11 dollar dimmer switch. They have them in their lamp section. The ones I use are all wired and everything, it has a 6 foot cord, I just plug in my heatpad and control the temperature by the switch. They just had them on sale for 8 dollars 2 weeks ago.

Try the plug in lamp dimmer like the other poster said. But I have heard that sometimes small pads of very low wattage just don't work with lamp dimmers. Maybe that's why what you're using doesn't work.

I suggest putting the pad underneath the container, not inside it. If it is still too hot inside, raise the cage up a little to create an air space to dissipate some of the heat.
