Prroblem with vent area?

TEKNOSYS Jul 27, 2004 09:45 PM

I've had this boa since 7/9, and I got it from Ben Seigel's. She just shed today and I noticed that her vent area looks pink and doesn't seem normal, but I'm still a newbie when it comes to snakes so I don't know. What do you guys think? She has not defecated since I've had her. She ate a rat pup on 7/15, but she went opaque shortly after and just shed today, could that be why?

My albino had the same problem (it was a partial prolapsed bowel) It can be a serious problem if it isn't rectified.. What I did was put my albino in a sweater box with damp paper towels for 2 days (no vet available at that time) and luckily she corrected it herself by the end of the second day..

Oh you mean the vent on the snake, well maybe it is because you are holding her up right and all the blood is rushing to her but? I know that when I do a hand stand my face gets really flush!
Ok I will be serious this time I promise! If I see the picture right it looks as if the pink is the two last scales on her of her vent? It could be a couple different things. It could be a minor infection in the vent area, this may be able to be cleared up by a Betadyne (10% mixed with room temp water) bath. Let the snake soak for about 10-20 minutes. If it does not clear up some antibiotics may be needed. If you see any "organ" type material protruding out of the vent then yes it may be a prolapsed rectum/bowel and will need vet attention.
More then likely it was a bit of a bacteria infection caused by the prolonged shed period. bath the snake and check him/her in a couple days to see if it cleared up, if the vent starts to ooze or swells, then go to a VET asap. Don't worry about the snake not pooping yet, if he just shed he will probably go tonight.
I hope this helps

I think your right.. when I looked at it, I didn't notice the scale texture and remembered my females prolapse looking similar.
