follow up question for xelda.

violentxuprising Jul 27, 2004 11:51 PM

hi xelda, a couple of days ago i posted the question about the size of gecko/food size ("severly confused about size/age of gecko and amounts of food". and you answered my post, thank you. i just had a follow up question for you (sorry, i know i waited a little, was too busy). what size are the mealworms your talking about that you feed to the hatchlings, i think mine are too big (3/4"-1", "reg" mealworms), and that's why it is only eating 2-3, and not 10-12. thank you again for your help.

The 3/4" mealworms ought to be fine for the hatchlings. This is what I offered my hatchlings when they first started eating. I like it because I can leave 10-15 in a shallow dish and let them come out and eat when they felt comfortable. Then when the hatchlings were about a week old, I switched from a dish to a bowl, and they were able to find the food themselves.

Ron Tremper feeds 1" mealworms to his hatchlings from the beginning, and although a lot of people don't agree with his practices, you must admit he is one of, if not the, most successful leopard geckos breeders ever.
