Dragons use the tongue to smell, and sense their surroundings. They have an organ called the jacobsons organ back in the roof of the mouth. This organ is sensitive and works like a chemical receptor. It helps the dragon smell, and sense it's surroundings. The tongue comes out and collects chemicals in the air like food or body smell then goes back in to the receptor were the information is collected. Snakes do the sme thing. They do it more because there eye sight is so poor, they use it for sight, and smell.
