New Banana Kingsnake!!

Im getting my new Banana Kingsnake from a petstore today. I've never owned a kingsnake before. I've done research of their need and its similar to a cornsnake, only that it is a desert species. I have a bag of ESU Reptile Desert Blend Lizard Litter, can i use it as a substrate? I will not feed the snake in it's encolsure, i will feed it on a plastic shoe box. So there will be no risk of it getting it into the snake. I'll monitor the water every time too.
