ooenigmaxx Jul 28, 2004 10:26 AM

when I clean my jackson's cage how should I go about handling him? I heard that it can be tramautic if I ply him of a branch.

You can unintentionally damage claws or toes if you pry him off a perch. To pick him up and move him during cage cleaning here's a tip. Corral him between your hands. Gently coax him to climb on one hand by touching him on the tail or hind feet. Let him hold you and avoid covering his head or back. That is a sign of aggression to a cham. Then carry him to a plant or perch somewhere else while you do your cage chores. Sometimes a really scared cham will jump or let itself fall off your hand to the floor (they think they look like a falling leaf). Most often a fall from that height is not a problem as they fill themselves with air once they feel themselves falling. But, if you can, carry him over carpets.

Tap their butt with your finger and that should get him to move forward. That's all I do.

Never pry them off but coax them onto your hand. its stressful for them if nto you can hurt them.
