NY Press: 6-Foot Python Spotted Eating Woodchuck On N.Y. Road

Jul 28, 2004 12:58 PM

WNBC (New York, NY) 28 July 04 6-Foot Python Spotted Eating Woodchuck On N.Y. Road
Mount Hope, N.Y.: Here's something you don't see every day in New York state -- a 6-foot snake eating a dead woodchuck on a road.
But that's what one motorist reported seeing this week on a road in Orange County.
When police in the town of Mount Hope, near Middletown, arrived at the scene, they found a large Burmese python. The officers managed to get the snake into a bag and transported it to the police station.
The town's animal control officer says she didn't know what to do with the reptile, so she called a local pet store for help. A manager put her in touch with a reptile expert in neighboring Sullivan County who took the snake back to his home.
Police say they're received no calls about a missing snake.
The Burmese python, a native of Southeast Asia, isn't poisonous.

Atleast they did the right thing, and didn't kill it.

This answers my questions about feeding my burms squirrels!
I'm switching to woodchucks! I wonder if I can start a frozen woodchuck business?
That is quite a morsel for a 6ft burm!
