What's with the curley tail?

bugman98 Jul 28, 2004 02:21 PM

I have two hatchlings with wierd tails. One is just all bent up. he is 4 weeks old and it has not gotten better. The other was hatched yesterday and his tail is all curled up like a corkscrew or like a pigs tail. Will these straighten out as they grow? Is it because of something in the mothers diet or what? Thank you in advance.

Father is about 3.5 yrs old purchased from pet store mother is 2 yrs old and actually a offspring of the father. (I know I'm not suppose to do that.) This season is the first clutches for her.

I'm sorry but why the heck did you breed them? Now what are you going to do with the babies?

This is exactly why the gene pool is so crappie here!

I'm sorry, this ticks me off!

What exactly were you thinking when you inbred your dragons? Would you like to see your sister and your dad having children?

I really truly hope that you have no intention of selling these babies to anyone, because if you do you should be ashamed of yourself. Its people like you who are destroying the quality of the gene pool of these wonderufl creatures. Sorry if this is a little harsh but I'm afriad you've left yourself wide open on this forum with that admission.

0.1 Bearded Dragon (Fuego, spent the last 10 months thinking she was a he!)
2.1 Roommates (require more cleaning up after than the dragon)

I hope you have a lot of extra enclosures lying around so that you can keep all those poor little inbred babies (in seperate enclosures so they don't inbreed even more!) If you put them back out there into the market, even the ones without deformities, you are contributing to the devestation of this species in the pet trade. The gene pool of this species is already suffering enough.

You've done a terrible thing by allowing those beardies to breed, and then allowing the eggs to hatch. Now YOU need to deal with the consequenses.

very true. Please don't make the bearded dragon hobby suffer by putting these inbred dragons out on the market.

another thought though....has this guy posted before? maybe someone should check his IP number or whatever it's called and compare it to that of that guy that was saying earlier how happy he was to be out of the business, for this exact reason. Just make sure this isn't trolling going on.

If it isn't, then I'm sorry. But still, it's a lesson to learn...don't breed dragons that are related to each other!

CheriS Jul 28, 2004 06:09 PM

almost always indicators of very close relation breeding, but read on and see you already know that

some people breed and get this because they did not know the dragons were related........ someday people will start listening to the fact you can not back breed or inbreed bearded dragons.

When you sale these babies, you should make it clear that they should never be bred, that they are the product of inbreeding and more generations will be worse than them.

People like you should be arrested for animal cruelty. And that's exactly what it is- ANIMAL CRUELTY! I'll never be able to understand how anyone could be stupid enough to knowingly inbreed bearded dragons. Too many other dragons are available for your breeding needs. What were you thinking? You even admitted that you knew you shouldn't have done this.

No,
they will not straighten out as the dragons get older. It is a genetic deformity usually cause by inbreeding.

I have a dragon with a bent tail, it's sister had a curly tail. I know for a fact they weren't inbred. It's a deformity, but inbreeding is not the cause.

It can be caused by inbreeding though, and in this case it most likely is, knowing that the parents are closely related.

littleherper Jul 30, 2004 11:02 PM

I know its not always caused by inbreeding but inbreeding is the most common cause for genetic deformitys
