Open Mouth????

XTripleZeroX Jul 28, 2004 02:52 PM

Hey, my juvenile beardie is eating, drinking, and coming along just fine. I have caught him a few times recently on his log with his mouth a little open. Do I have reason to be concerned? Is this a symptom of anything? I know they open their mouths and puff up around people and their own reflections, but he had no idea i could see him the times that I caught him with his mouth open. It is in no way excessive, just a couple times. Any advice?

Beardies do this to thermoregulate. Instead of moving out of the heat they will open their mouths to let out heat. Kinda like how a dog pants. As long as he's not doing it a lot of the time even out of the heat, and is not making any noise when he breaths he's most likely just thermoregulating which is completely normal.
