Tank Heating!!

dazz Jul 28, 2004 03:27 PM

What do you guys think of the temps in my viv? I have a 60w
spotlight at one end and a 23X11 heat under the sand near to
the cool end, the temp at the hotspot is 110 and 90 to 95
surrounding temps, The middle of the enclosure can reach 100
to 120 near the back of tank and at the front in middle its 80.
The cool end is 80 to 85, It just seems the heat mat is pumping out a lot of heat, its nearly acting like a heat rock but quite a big one as its a big area its heating. So should i mybe reduce the size of the mat?

the 120 is definately overkill, and you can reduce the 110 with no ill effects as well. I think your heat bad will be fine, just don't put any light around it. I always try to get around 105 for basking sites, and 75-80 on the coolends during the day. AT night I let the tank dip to the lower 70's

Sorry, I haven't been here to make fun of you lately...I've been really busy, and all but two of my lizards are outside now. I almost forgot how much work lizards can be :P
