Some Eggs are Hatching Today.........

HerperHelmz Jul 28, 2004 07:24 PM

Hello all,

I looked in my egg incubator because I was gonna remove 2 eggs that went bad(1 of Giant's and 1 of the albino's). And I happened to see a little ringneck snake sticking 1/4 out of a egg, very small snake. Then I looked over and saw what looked to be a deflated egg in a place where I didn't put any eggs. I had to check my records before going through the moss and stuff looking for snakes, and realized that was an egg, I lifted up some moss and there was another little ringneck.

1 female northern I had in June laid 6 eggs, 2 of which went bad soon after laying.
She laid 4 fertile eggs on June 15th.
And 2 of those eggs hatched today, I expect the other 2 to do the same very shortly.

It shouldn't be long before the high majority of the eggs start hatching, as most of the eggs I had were laid a few days apart.

The albino laid 5 eggs on June 15th

I had 2 females lay eggs on June 17th. 1 egg from 1 female, 2 from the other

Giant laid 5 eggs, 1 or 2 of which(can't remember) is/are still going, her eggs were laid on different days inbetween June 23rd and July 11th.

now your feeding problems start. I have found that they swallow the worm if you put it in the mout when it is open when you are holding it. DO you know what I mean? every ringneck I have held will open it's mout against my hand, and I just stick a small dead earthworm inside and it swallows. Or you can use any food sourse you usualy do. Mine are not eating earth worms on their own, but they eat little frogs. They do not seem very intersted in worms. Sallys do best, but neither of us can find enough.

Actually what you are saying, is that the ringnecks are attempting to bite you. That happened to me a few times, they'll open their mouth against your hand, but they never get a good grip.

I don't look at it as a problem getting them to eat, I mean come on, it's me. After a snake will shed, I'll over it cut up F/T worms, I can bet most of them will take.

The one snake that is fully out is pretty small, but it could eat a neonate brown snake. It's belly looks a little reddish, no ventral spots on this one.

Yea, you do have your ways with ringnecks. I have offered live and f/t worms cut up and small worms and they have not got a taste for them here. I have never had any ringnecks that would take worms without me putting it in the mouth of the snake. i figure you can probably do it because you have more experience with those kind of snakes. I like other snakes and am getting seriously into retics and burms.
