What to feed a 6-7 week old baby veiled chameleon?

voidix Jul 28, 2004 07:47 PM

I am getting this chameleon soon, and would like to know what is the best thing to feed it. I have plenty of pet stores that can provide me with crickets and calcium powder, but what size crickets should I get? How long in length is too long for this chameleon? I heard that a cricket too big in size can cause problems if eaten, such as choking.

Ask for pin head crix or ones that are about a quarter inch in size. Rule of thumb is no wider then the chams mouth - which I can understand if you want to be one the safe side. I dont totally agree with it though. If the cham sees food and it feels that it can take it then I dont see a problem with slightly larger prey items.

Chams at that age also dig fruit flies, small butter and meal worms, small silk worms, and house flies. I would stay away from meal worms, there are better things to feed a cham then that.
