I think that my favorite kind of snake may be the black pine snake. Decent size, impressive looks, easy to feed, moderate price, personality and plenty active. Bulls, gophers and pines are all similar in many ways and I love them all, the black pines just stand out a little more to me as a group. Even though my favorite individual snake right now is a bull snake, I can never see myself not having black pines. For the first time in about 30 years, I have no kings or milks. I'm not kingsnake bashing, I've had many and thoroughly enjoyed them. I just think that the pituophis have a special quality.
If you like the qualities of kingsnakes better, a San Diego gopher might be a good choice. They are GENERALLY more moderately sized and come in all kinds of color varieties, USUALLY with good temperaments (even some corns are ornery!). Just my 2 cents... happy herping!
He he he...
though it's actually very tough to answer! Cause, all I have are Pines of the three options you give. It's easy for me though, cause my Northern Pines have a character I just love. They are usually up and about during the day. And often I find them watching me! And the babies, oh man, so cute, coiling and hissing away, acting like the most dangerous things, oh don't touch me...LOL! But they seem to always mellow out...well the ones I have are mellow! But I love the beauty of a nice classic black and white Northern Pine, with the diff shading of red, in spots in the tail, in some shading between some scales, the the light red shading of the nose, just completes the picture for me. Here is a shot of my Big Girl, a husky six foot Northern Pine. But I have to admit, my Northern Mexican Pines, aka jani, are a close second, or could call it a tie!

Here is my yearling female jani. Beautiful! I love the variation of these guys, and how they keep looking nicer and nicer every shed!

I have never owned a pine, but I have kept gopher and bullsnakes... My personal favorite hands down are the bullsnakes... Especially the red bulls... I have one on order as we speak, not to mention another one at the house... In my opinion pits have "personality!" Over the years I have kept kings, milks, rats, boas, and pythons... I am phasing out all these snakes just to make room for pits... You can't go wrong either way...
