The complete chameleon setup

chacoantegu Jul 29, 2004 02:41 AM

I have been designing and working on building a complete chameleon kit/cage that is affordable and aesthetically pleasing. Its basically a light weight aluminum screencage with everything built in that is needed for a chameleon except the plants and chameleon. The current model is 18x18x30, it comes built in with an 18" uv fixture, incandescent light fixture, misting system, fan, drainage system, timer, temperature/humidity gauges and it only has one plug going into the wall.

I just wanted to hear input on it from people here on the forum as well as ideas for it.

I also wanted to know if any breeders out there want to test it out for free to see how you like it and help fix the problems it may have.

It could be bigger. 24x24x48 would be ideal. Everything else sounds awesome.

Explain the drainage system and fan. How does the drainage system work exactly? Would you need a fan in a screened enclosure?

Also, maybe have 2 Flourescent hoods on the top.

I dig that idea though. I'd buy one if it was bigger. I'm sure if the cage itself had the same design as those screened cages that are sold everywhere, you'd sell quite a bit of them.

Post your prototype or design sketches or whatever. I'd like to see it.

Yep, make it bigger! You will probably find that at some particular size your costs to make them get higher than what you can sell them for. Good ideas here! You might also consider ways to link cages to share banks of lights, foggers, a simple way to block views from cage to cage, and to provide temporary access for mating.

Carlton, that's a great idea. You could make a cham "Breeder" cage. Sort of like, 2 joined 24x24x48 in screen cages, but in the middle of the two, theres a plastic "card" or some type of material that you can't see through and it just pulls out, making one cage. When the deed is done and the female or male goes back to their side, slip the card back in, now it's two cage again. I like that idea.

guess I'll be making a stop at the patent offices tomorrow . . . i thoguth of it first! lol kidding.
