water and eggs. wheres it coming from????

gavinclews Jul 29, 2004 01:09 PM

My eggs are today at 48 days old. Over the last couple of days i have noticed that water droplets are starting to appear on the tops of a couple of my eggs. Not all of them but just a few. The wierd thing is that there is no water anywhere else like the lids of the containers or the incubator itself so i know its not t5oo much condensation. Can anyone shed some light on this? Its my first year of breeding so i need to get as much advice and help i can off experienced breeders.thanx!!

lol dont worry.

eggs "sweat" before they hatch. your eggs will probably start hatching quite soon.

The little droplets are often a sign that the eggs are about to hatch, but at 48 days this is very unlikely. What's the humidity level at in the incubator?

gavinclews Jul 29, 2004 02:03 PM

The humidity in the incubator is about 60. But its been that all the time and there is no condensation anywhere else. Also it is only on two or three eggs. Its only happened in the last 3 days or so

They absorb water from the substrate are on. If you have them on vermiculite or perlite then they are still absorbing, even if the overall Incubator humidity was 20%. They take in water (if available) until they can't take any more. If they take too much, then they can "sweat" it out.

Just take a paper towel & brush it across them to suck it up. Leave the lid off of what ever container they are in for a couple hours (or at least leave it cracked open)

Let us know how it goes.

Yes that maybe it. If you remember i posted a message about some of my eggs being a little bigger than the others and i think if i remember these are the ones that are sweating out water. It may be that these have taken in more water than the others im not really sure. Anyway they seem fine and there is no sign there is anything wrong with them so i will carry on waiting. It seems like i have been waiting longer than i have. Does anyone else get exited and impatient when they are waiting for there babies to hatch?? Im like a kid waiting for christmas.

Yup, it's hard to wait. What's even worse is when they pip & sit there for a day with just their head sticking out. Now that's a hard wait. lol

Yeah i get what you mean. Its even worse when its your first ever batch and you just want to get it right and you are learning as you go along as i am. It will seem like a massive achievment when i finally get my first hatchlings and i think only bearded dragon lovers would understand that i will be a very proud man when they all hatch healthy. I am crossing my fingers that they will all be healthy. I am going to leave them alone now as i have been candling them every couple of weeks and i did them yesturday and to my suprise i could see their tails moving around at the top of the egg. Its the first time i have seen movement and i have heard that they can be startled if you shine light in.Will get back to you with a pic of my hatchlings as soon as they emerge. Thanx for all the help you have given me over the weeks. you have been very helpfull.

No prob. Remember, every one of us had our first clutch too.
Are you a member to a local herp. society? I am & it helps to have someone you can call if you have any emergency questions, or need to show someone something etc.
If your not, I highly recommend looking into it.

Good luck & keep us updated.
