I have read on here that these boas are docile and a pleasure to handle. Then I have read posts that state that they are ANYTHING BUT.....

What gives?

Different snakes, different people. All snakes have their own temperment. I think a fair generalization would be that most Solomon Island Ground Boas are docile and tractable, whereas Viper Boas tend to be nippy. You'll find a wide range on the bell curve for these wonderful snakes.

There are a few variables to consider, and as the saying goes 'results may vary'. Some species/subspecies are more docile or agressive (as the case may be) than others. Wild caught animals are invariably more aggressive and problematic in my opinion and limited experience. Individual temperament also comes into play. I own five Candoia - 4 Solomon Island ground boas and 1 Santa Isabel ground boa. The Santa Isabel is very calm when being handled and seems to enjoy it. The two male Solomon Island ground boas tolerate handling and will probably enjoy it more as I spend more time with them. My juvenile female Solomon Island ground boa hasn't been handled a lot at this point to minimize stress...she's a finicky eater...but tolerates handling for short time periods fine. The oldest of the five is my adult female Solomon Island ground boa - a beautiful snake that loves to draw blood. She was wild caught and has acclimated fine to captivity...providing I don't touch her. She is always handled with gloves to prevent blood-letting (mine) and we have reached a truce over the two years I've owned her. I can now move her from her enclosure to a small tub while I clean and then back again without a strike...usually. Those are my personal experiences with these beautiful little snakes. Hope it helps.
