Well if there is a lot of traffic in from of the window then it may not be a good idea. As for heat, maybe just put half of the cage in front of the window so that there is still a cool side. If you live where it gets cool or cold during the winter, then you may want to move the cage away from the window especially if its drafty. The sun will also rob the cage of humidity as well - so keep that in mind.

I currently have my cage in front of a window. On nice days I will open up the window so that it gets direct sunlight over half of the cage - my cham digs it.

Yes, he might stress out, but would get used to it. Yes, the window might get too cold/hot sometimes. A quick fix...hang a towel or other cloth on the cage to block the window when the weather is wrong, and to ease his stress about the new view hang it there for a while and gradually remove more and more of it.

I.M.O.
i have a cage by a window
i only have half of it in front of the window so the cham can get out of the sun if/when he chooses, and in the winter if it snows where you are from like hear, move the cage if there are any drafts
as far as street noise that shouldnt be a problem becuase chameleons hearing isnt that great
the only probem with having chameleons in my bedroom is shaking
the floor when walking or stuff!

Unless I am mistaken, the Window blocks the UV light, so therefore its really quite pointless, only good it will do is add to heat, it won't give him the UV light that he would get being say, outside.

Just thought i'd let u know incase that was any part of your reasoning having him there.

Then again, I could be completely wrong. but im 99% sure UV light is blocked by a glass.

LOL...
She's absolutely correct
Make sure you open the window,The U.V. rays do penetrate the screen!
And the fresh air combined with fresh sunlight is GREAT for chameleons!

Having a cage near a window is still beneficial, even if they UV rays aren't passing through. Most glass does block UV-B (unless you have low lead glass) but the natural full spectrum light (even if it's not directly hitting the cage) will still help to keep your chameleon healthy and happy.
