I was thinking something similar. I had to think long and hard about this issue. If people are going to morph the green anaconda...I really hope the market stays very tight. I do not want this getting to be a fad where everyone wants the new anaconda morph. It is going to ruin us for good when a ton of green anaconda morphs are being sold to people all over the place who do not know a thing about this animal. But I also think one of those axanthics are pretty nice looking and would look nice in my collection (a dedicated anaconda person)...one of those pics on the newspaper I thought was just a black and white photo until I saw the irridescence. I have to admit I kind of like the morphing of some of the snakes since I am a little tired of seing bags full of cheap ball pythons in every pet store. But I don't see normal corns hardly at all anymore and the one I had sold super quickly like it was a new thing or something. If people want a bunch of 5 ft pythons and colubrids thats great and little harm done to the hobby (unless kids are taking them all over bragging about their new python that is going to get some rediculous size). But anacondas...this market needs to stay small. Just putting that $6000 tag on there makes it look investment appealing and that I think could have a dangerous effect. Sorry Ben...I hope the snakes sell but I hope this idea does not hit. Especially after that new movie comes out. Wonder whats going on with this guy?

i thought it was a bad thing for states makeing it illigal to own anacondas ( i almost had a free yellow this week but got stopped by this problem ( just a tiny bit angry)) my state will be one of these starting in january. but with these laws going in to affect anaconda morphs will not be wanted couse people would not buy them.

I have been to plenty reptile shows in states where over 6 ft snakes are illegal (mine). Plenty of huge snake...plenty of huge species...plenty of illegal crocs and gators. Law does not have a need to care until a problem occurs...but they might stop it dead in the tracks if there are all sorts of problems..then they might try and stop before the problem. No need to now...but how about when a few anaconda morphs eat some dogs, kill a young person who should not have had it in the first place, or get loose and shows up on "COPS". Sure...even if a ton of people buy them...there will not be even close to as many problems as we have with dogs..death or injury..but people dont like snakes...so they take the punishment. I hope you are right that we wont see a bunch of morphs on tables in 2 years...It will never get as big as ball pythons and corns but getting more at all is too much. I just want to have enough interest to have enough demand to support the folks who always dreamed of having anacondas, the ones who will spend all day on here talking about them and wanting to know everything...those are the only people who need them...and there is almost enough people already to support that. Why add to it. But hey..we got the granite morph and not a huge following on that so maybe I worry to much. But I think if albino hits...we are done.
i hace seen other morphs in yellow anacondas like pattern less and stripe. there rare and not that many people have seen them but if u look u can find a pic here in there pp has a hypo yellow i think. i got my retic from them and u no the problems i have. eather me or arik will get the first true albinos and i know if i get them there not guna be up for sale i keep them forever or get them spayed lol.

and about the laws on anacondas. while most states if keep something illegal they just take the animal and give it to a zoo or some place they normal will put the conda down becouse there so "agressive".

Personally, I think the morphs are beautiful, I actually really think that snow conda is *really* beautiful, and if I had a choice I would love to keep one as a pet for my collection. I agree with you all on the fact that if these condas are bred all over that it might not be a good thing, because it would be terrible if it was harder to find a regular green than some morph. But I don't think these condas should just be gotten rid of or anything of the sort, because it's still a living thing and it's still just as beautiful (in my opinion). It would be great if this anaconda was bred for people's collections and everything, but I think it might have a bad chain reaction of the babies being bred and it would just overrun, but sometimes that's not always the case with things, (outcasting the kids that are thinking "hey, it would be so cool to own a big snake and show off" that just buy them and don't take care of them) If you look at the reticulated python morphs and just them in general, it is just as easy to find a regular reticulated python as it is a morph of one, if you look at NERD's website, they have a good 8 morphs of reticulated pythons, and it doesn't make it any harder to find a regular. But personally I find morphs to be beautiful snakes, and as long as they don't get out of hand, I see no problem with them.. But this is all just opinion

yeah-i hope i get stuck with the freakishly ugly animal as well, as i have an albino coming back to me from the pair that i sold two years ago--i hope i get stuck with that horrible looking animal as well, cause god, it is just so horrible a ugly--neon yellow with purple markings and bright pink eyes--one of the ugliest snakes i have seen!----fyi--an axanthic female was sold last year for 8K and died shortly after-so i think right now there are 5 of these in the world total, and yes this animal is a female---there maybe het albinos available in a little as 3 months from the male i sold and possibly albinos as soon as next year, and here is the kicker-both albinos which are 7 and 9 foot are baby tame and have stayed that way since they were babies. You may be right, who in the world would want a huge tame albino annaconda-we may as well stop the project and sterilize both of them--give me a break-my 2 cents--Ben Siegel
` It's a damned shame that you, and too many others, are fixated on how much they're worth. Then, on top of that, their worth being tied to what they look like and how much exclusivity one gets from owning an unusual looking animal. It's really entertaining, but sad, to watch. People discard animals of less value for those of higher value, trying to get into the best bragging position. It's much like those who buy the products on TV that promise "greater endowment."
` Look what's happened to Boas. Boas, like Retics, are beautifully patterned snakes. Yet, people pay big bucks for Boas with ugly squiggles on them, just to have something no one else has. Then, they breed them like crazy to get the bucks before they're no longer exclusive. Most of those poor critters aren't nearly as beautiful as a normally patterned Boa.
` Watching most folks stand in line to get suckered by the next person telling them what is valuable to them is depressing as Hell. And, that's not to mention how hard it is on the main object, which is successful husbandry which allows pet-grade snakes to be produced.
` It is sad that Kelly Haller, and those few like him, who sell Anacondas, and other snakes, bragging about their behavior, health, and lineage, are so much in the minority.
` Just remember what the Great Man said: "You can't cheat an honest man. Never give a sucker an even break, or smarten up a chump."

I don't think the uproar of this thread is about an albino not being beautiful. I agree and think they would be and the axanthics looks awesome. I also do not think it will be hard finding a normal ever in the future...corns just got out of control. The problem is if they get like retics, or possibly ball pythons. People are buying for money and more people want these rare creatures that will not be rare long. Anacondas are not snakes to put into the hands of people who are not willing to dedicate huge amounts of time to them. That movie on animal planet "the big squeeze" had a bunch of people who were careless with big burmese pythons and knew little about them. Had a bunch of retics. But no anacondas...thats because their market did not get so dumb. Kelly Haller is doing the greatest thing anyone can. A lot more people are getting into anacondas and he is breeding snakes that are easier to take care of than most greens with feeding and they have remarkable tempers. So at least the people getting them "might" not be overwhelmed. But if they are dumb like the people on the show and want to play with their parrot and then reach in an anaconda cage...they no longer exist and become another member of DFRs long list of Darwin award winners. I said the axanthics look great...I hope Ben sells them, but I really hope this designer industry does not take off. Now for my defense, I purchased Marks granites after eyeing them for a year, they are amazing feeders and I have yet to be bitten by one of them. I told Mark that day this was not an investment decision but I will probably breed yellows in the near future and granites will be parents...I am curious to see what comes out to a normal and it may be a little more prifitable to myself if I have het. granite. They are not going to be extremely expensive snakes but I would guess a little more than a normal since they do carry a trait for 1 on 8 granites as well. anyone startled? It seems to me like no big deal...albino and axanthic seem to shake things up a little more as they have a big big price tag on them and scream investment oportunity...I hope this isnt the case and I hope this project does not take a turn for disaster. AND green is a little differet than yellow...about 3 times the size difference. Now as far as ball pythons...My friends breed a ton of normals..they love ball pythons and I do as well...but with their multiple breeding pairs they dont make enough to support their own time. Its sad DFR but thats how it is. I will co-breed with them and I am sure that will help them out and I will breed with my animals as well and our clutches will at least be worth our efforts...it is about money somewhat. I dont like to see any animal be cheapened but ball pythons were seen this way long before the morphs hit....in my opinion it had some good effects because at least this is a perfect pet (unlike green anaconda, retic morphs, rock, or burm morphs...guess which one was never an issue until tomorrow) Besides, there will be plenty of them in clutches of normal to co-domintant morph lol.
