If I understand your post correctly your gecko is laying on it's back? Wow, can't say I have ever heard that one before. How is the enclosure set up? Temps, substrate etc? Also, are there any cagemates? IS the gecko alert and healthy? When upside down what state is it in? If you touch it does it immediately jump to upright itself or is it listless and weak? That is the wierdest thing I have ever heard. I have seen them sleep in just about every position except flat on their back, that would concern me too POst as much info as you can and hopefully someone can help. Otherwise I would strongly suggest a vet visit may be in order. Best of luck to you, keep us posted.

Hi there....let's see, he is very healthy, eats every time we feed him, he is in a cage alone, has branches to climb on, water bowl, and is in I think peat moss as a substrate, not 100% sure about that. He was on the substrate upside down, and as soon as I touched him, he turned over....my fiancee' said he was OK this morning when he had him...just checked on him and he is on a branch now....just weird I found him 2 or 3 times like that....any more infomation you need, just let me know...thanks a bunch..

Hi, I don't think that you are alone with your problem, I can remember a couple of other posts about the same thing. Also the first time i ever bought a Crested I picked one out of 5 at a pet store. The guy working there went to grab it and it ran a little then turned over and layed on its back. I was concerned and then he told me that it was a defence mechanism. Now i dont know whether he knew what he was talking about but I still got the gecko and he is fine today (over a year). He did the back thing only one other time. I havent seen any othert geckos doing this or heard any one else say that it was in fact a defence mechanism. Well good luck.

actually mine was almost hanging off his branches and just barely holding on yesterday. Its not exactly on his back but i dont know how else to describe it. But it was my fauly because it had gotten too hot 80F maybe thats why they turn over?

I regurlarly find gex in strange positions under the PTs, I would not worry if it is eating and otherwise appears healthy.
