Question for Spilota experts.....

Chris Olson Jul 29, 2004 07:53 PM

With all of the Morelia cocktails floating around...I don't know what ssp this is. It looks to me like it might be a New Guinnea/Diamond cross...but I would like to get some other opinions from people that have more experience with Carpets...(I'm a Boa guy...but don't let that stop you....). If you can help, Thanks,

Chris Olson

Well Chris, as you said there are a lot of crosses in carpet world. Though IJ, as a rule(for now) don't usually get crossed. That doesn't mean it can't or didn't happen...Anyways its hard to ID carpets without an idea of what the parents were, or at least looked like. Carpets are VERY variable in color and pattern!...As such please don't take my guess or any guess here as fact. From the color and banding I'd say Diamond is a good posibility...perhaps with Jungle (one of the most common crosses). The color in the banding reminds me of several DxJ I've seen pics of, so that would be my guess...

Thank you for your respose. I certainly wouldn't take anyones opinion on this as fact since I don't know her parentage...but I would like to have a better idea. I think your right about Diamond x Jungle...but who knows. She's an awesome pet, and at some point I might find her a love interest. If I do...I would like to find one that looks similar.

Take care, Chris Olson

Most of the crosses floating around have some coastal blood in them but I see what you are saying about the Irian Jaya influence... good luck with it.

It has some very distinguishing Irian Jaya characteristics, but less orange and the tipping is very tell tale of a Diamond.

In fact, I see no reason to suspect any Jungle or Coastal in that animal at all.

This is purely an educated guess, so don't expect to get a definite answer.
