Pinellas County Kings...

Peter_Jolles Jul 29, 2004 08:09 PM

I wanted a pair of these ever since someone posted some pics of a few hatchlings last year. I emailed Len Krysko over and over and finally he forwarded me on to Lindsay Pike. He parted with a nice 1.2 trio from the 2003 hatch and shipped them to me about a month ago.

They are big, fat, healthy, and ravenous feeders - just like a Floridana should be. However, they keep their bands like a Getula... Really cool! Lindsay explained to me that Pinellas County is completely paved over - and is a peninsula. These animals are all but gone. Extinct. I don't know where else to get them - except from Lindsay... So I am very pleased that I got the trio when I did.

Here is a pic of the male....

You can see that he has very little red - unlike the females.

That female is the best of the 3 if you ask me. I like 'em mostly black on the dorsum with thin crosses. Shiny scales too.

All three are very tame and great feeders. Hopefully I will produce many of these over the next several years.

And not simply because of markings!
How unique is that? Coming from a locale that is now non-existent!

I can personally verify the part about Pinellas County being completely paved over. My Grandparents lived down there until recently and it's insane, wall to wall people. My grandpa had pictures of Pinellas County in the 1950s, nothing but pine trees and palmetto fields, Eastern Diamondbacks everywhere, now I doubt you could find a blade of grass. Kind of sad. At least someone is keeping the bloodline going.
